Enough!

We talked about this noise last year during the Confederations Cup but FIFA didn't listen us. They let vuvuzelas into the stadiums and turned World Cup 2010 into a fiasco. Many people mute their TVs and try to watch the game without hearing anything including commentators and spectators. Even if they try to listen, they can't because of these wonderful instruments.

So, there is no more to say about this. I'm looking forward to next tournaments so I can hear fans chanting and singing, players yelling each other.

I might watch the final if I have enough courage to bear the noise.

Have a nice World Cup to y'all.

  1. HORRIBLE noise - disrespectful, annoying, distracting. It's impossible for the viewer to concentrate on the game - imagine what it's like for the players!

    BAN THEM!

  2. Please ban Vuvuzela, we can't watch games with sound. It sounds like there are thousands of flies in stadium.

  3. I agree the noise is all you hear, it's like the field is about to get attacked by a swarm of killer bees.

  9. Now it has started and it's a bug, there are a couple of petitions online to ban the vuvuzela from the World Cup. Here's one:

  10. Ban the vuvuzela's some players can't hear each other, keepers are having miscommunications with their defence and team. Some players can hear the whistle for offside anymore (see Netherlands - Denmark and Van Persie ) or Australia vs. Germany where the keeper comes out of the goal and couldn't warn the defender.

BAN THEM! They are annoying, where's the cheering, the songs from the people. Everyone is blowing their horns!

    ReplyDelete
  11. What a terrible thing, that horn. No fun watching soccer now on the television. Please ban the Vuvuzela, I hate it. Where is the fantasy in this, where is the human emotion in this thing. I like to hear the crowd and not like I'm driving on the highway all the time. Please also ban the terrible Blatter and make soccer a modern game.

  12. Yes ban this aer destroing thing

  13. I have to almost mute my tv and tweak the equalizer to remove lower frequencies. But what really bothers me is the fact that noise has absolutely no relation to what is happening. That makes it even more irritating. The noise doesnt even increase (or stops) when its a goal or there is a national anthem, all the dynamics are killed. I dont understand how they did not ban this. Maybe they could have done an exception for South African team games. I still hope that in a Germany Italy or Argentina Brazil match, the vuvuzelas will be less noisy than in african team games. Obviously, FIFA is worried about violence and social tension in South Africa and they are scared that a ban like this could cause turmoil.

  15. I agree, it is almost impossible to watch a game. The noise is unbearable. If they do not ban this idiotic tool the stadiums will go empty

  16. Ruining the World Cup for me ! Roll on 2014 .

    ReplyDelete
  17. It amuses me that some people try to play the race card, saying the sound is the soul of Africa, an ingrained cultural tradition. So far as I can find out, the fad only started to catch on in the 1990s!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ban the Vuvuzelas, as they are making a sham out of 2010. This will go down in infamy as the worst world cup EVER due to the flagrant ignorance and stupidity of the South Africans. And let me say this, it isn't the white South Africans who are blowing these stupid things.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Let's not make this about race. 1.5 million of these god-awful things were sold in Europe, FYI. The bottom line is: they suck. I hate them. I can't even concentrate on the damned game, so it's not hard to imagine what the players on the field are going through, not to mention the poor saps that are sitting next to the idiots blowing them. WHY CAN'T WE BAN THEM?! Having the WC in South Africa was a lovely gesture, but the vuvuzelas are RUINING the whole thing!

    ReplyDelete
  20. The organizing committee will continue to evaluate the use of vuvuzelas, the statement said, and will not tolerate “any vuvuzelas landing on the field of play during matches or being used in a threatening manner at the stadiums, which has never before been the case.”

Please, someone at the games throw some vuvuzelas onto the field and save us all from the drone of angry bees.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Blatter should resign ! South africans have no respect for the game, other nations or the world cup it self ! S.A.10 is ONE huge MISTAKE pushed by "political correctness"! Worst hosts ever ! worst games ever ! empty stadiums....just terrible

What an idiotic tradition! Why don't they cheer and sing instead?! It would be more creative and appropriate!... Oh, well - I guess these baboons aren't capable of anything better than primitive gestures! Welcome to freaking Africa! :)))

Ban vuvuzelas, ban giving WC for hosting to barbarians!

  30. Reason #1 to ban vuvuzelas: MONEY
If people have their tv's muted, then they aren't going to unmute their tv's for the commercials, so why would any company want to pay for commercial time if it only gets through to a small percentage of people watching?

Reason #2 to ban vuvuzelas: PUBLIC HEALTH
    Everyone will go deaf.

Reason #3 to ban vuvuzelas: INSANITY
    Everyone will go Insane.

Reason #4 to ban vuvuzelas: Heart Attacks
When my brother and I were younger, we used to sneak up on my father while he was on the computer and blow a vuvuzela in his ear... after his first heart attack, we stopped that. They were banned in my house as they should be anywhere people's health is in jeopardy.

(yes, I put money as #1, because that's the real motivation, not public health or mental health.

    ReplyDelete
  31. After watching about 2 minutes of a game and hearing the bloody drone this will be the last time I watch soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  32. not the same.. this may go down as the WORST WC ever due to FIFA and there stubbornness

    ReplyDelete
  33. It is a noisemaker and ruins the game. You will be remembered for this South Africa - is that the legacy you want?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ruining WC 2010 ... sadly our memories of this incredible opportunity (hosted by South Africa/Africa) will be defined/spoiled by the vuvuzela.

    ReplyDelete
  35. If someone found that the vuvuzelas "are warm and smooth" to their ears, then they should play it in their bathroom, not in the stadium, so that they won't bother other with these polluting sounds!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I`m NOT european, i´m from Brasil and these awfull vuvuzelas made me HATE south africa for RUINING our WC experience! What kind of idiot can possibly enjoy such an annoying and aggressive buzz????? We can´t hear the mood of the game, the chants, claps, the yelling.. PLZ shove those vuvuzelas up your arses, South Africans!

  37. Please ban this shit right now!!! It is ruining the world cup. Even it it is a traditional thing from South Africa... it is still the WORLD cup.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ruining the competition for me. Have to watch with the sound off. Ill remember this as the World Cup with the hideous noise and not because of the football. BAN THEM

    ReplyDelete
  43. the only memory i will have of this cup is the noise... i have to watch the games with no volume... i miss hearing the excitement of the crowd as the tempo of the game ebbs and flows... shame !

    ReplyDelete
  44. The SA authorities should realize the damage the vuvuzela noise is doing to their country. Just hope this so called culture does not spread to Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Totally agree these things are wrecking the experience. You can't hear the songs, the chants, can't get into the atmosphere. It's actually destroying people's experience and people are turning off the games. SA was once reviled for its apartheid, it's rapidly becoming reviled for the vuvuzela. FIFA and Sepp Blatter have a lot to answer for. It's not a tradition, it's a droning din - people wouldn't mind if it happened now and then but it doesn't. As ridiculous as it sounds, the only 'hope' is that someone throws one at someone and they all get banned. Or send in the UK Health & Safety Exec - they'd ban it for noise pollution...

    ReplyDelete
  46. This is the World Cup, not the South African Cup. The vuvuzela should be banned simply because fans from other countries should be heard to sing their songs at games. FIFA must act now.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Effin hate them. Ban them NOW!

    Ruining the World Cup!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. seem nobody has anything better to do than moan about vuvuzelas. well, while you moan consider this: FIFA has screwed SA's hawkers everywhichway to next sunday - the sale of vuvus and flags has been about the only trade allowed, particularly near stadia. hawkers who have been selling food and other wares for years have suddenly been banished for the sake of McD and the other exploiters. i for one am glad they are making a killing from the sales - and the visitors LOVE them!

also, as annoying as the vuvu is on tv (i have to concede this point), for those in the stadium it adds to the atmosphere. please note how many of the visiting fans are toting the hated object, complete with their own flag design on it.

so don't be haters just cos you ain't there!

I'd like to hear the samba dances when Brazil play. I'd like to hear the discordant brass band when England play. And I'd like to hear some vuvuzelas when RSA play.

What I don't want is 31 cultures to be swamped and smothered.

  52. We finally get the Americans interested in Football & what happens? These idiots think it's a good idea to introduce a total buzz kill to football, the Vu Vu Zela's.

Calling it tradition, & if they were banned they would be insulted.

Guess what Africa? The whole World is insulted that you're ruining the World Cup experience.

    Can you say selfish?

Oh btw, has anyone else noticed the Vu Vu Zela is the perfect shape to shove up the arse of whoever is blowing the damn thing?

  56. Welcome to Africa. Stick some vuvu's up your holy arses !

    ReplyDelete
  57. Vuvuzelas should be banned for life, not only for this World Cup tournament.

Absolutely annoying to everybody. I wished that FIFA banned this darn thing during last year's Confederations Cup in South Africa.

I might agree that the new ball is terrible, but it's nothing compared to these noise making sticks!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Ban the horns or FIFA will end up banning soccer by default. Any American trying to watch soccer will be confronted by the infernal vuvuzelas. And it's not only South Africa either. Hooligans worldwide use the damn things. Save the vuvuzelas for use as horns on oil tankers or aircraft carriers.

3 years ago I watched a game that took place in South America, and these vuvuzelas were out in force and I didn't know what the noise was. Now I know. Ban and RECYCLE them! In the mean time, use the MUTE button.

  60. The only one happy about these things is the manufacturer. I had looked forward to watching the WC and because I only now a bit about the game, I enjoy hearing the commentators. Unfortunately the sound was so bad that I won't be watching anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  61. The top management of FIFA should have taken action towards this
matter. The fans and players can't take it anymore. It really affects
the beauty of the game. Players can't show the best they got. Someone
need to do something. World Cup is something people have been waiting
for so long but we are quite disappointed with the environment. S...tress,
pressure and tense will prevent players to show who they really are and
what they can really do. Im afraid if no actions taken, world cup will
not be as special as it should be.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ban the damn things! Like bloody air horns! Noisy as anything, and senseless and annoying. Bring back proper chants! Who cares if you're making noise/cheering when no one knows who you're cheering for!

    ReplyDelete
  63. You're all a bunch of assholes :D

    LONG LIVE THE VUVUZELA!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Firstly, you people complaining should learn to show some respect to your hosts. Would you ban something in your country if we asked you? No you would not, so don't be ignorant all your lives. When you get to experience something new you lot get all huffed and puffed about it.

Why don't you lot change the channel and watch something else? What next? Filter out the engine noise at Formula 1 races? Don't be stupid. Those of you complaining about vuvuzelas ruining the world cup should consider that your backward attitudes are responsible for that not a plastic horn. Stop complaining or change the channel you ignorant fools :)

    VIVA VUVZELAS! VIVA AFRICA!

    ReplyDelete
  65. You people that do bugger all but complain are a disgrace. You come in to our backyards and complain about our traditions? If you don't like it then change the channel, we're not hosting this tournament for you to complain about it. We do not complain about the silly songs sung in Europe or anywhere else in the world so stop complaining about our traditions. You're in Africa now, put up or shut up :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. I can't believe they have not been banned by now.
Completely ruining our World cup experience.
    Inconsiderate and de-humanising.
The old chants are a part of the game and add to the atmosphere..but these things...
    get rid of them!!!!!

  67. Finnish broadcasting company YLE is now filtering vuvuzela sound. It is not possible to filter out in totality, but now the roar of the crowds can be heard.

    ReplyDelete
  68. As a South African, I am appalled at the comments here and can assure you that we will be doing everything we can to make sure that every fan at every game blows their vuvuzelas a whole lot louder during the remaining games so tough luck :D

    ReplyDelete
  69. Just too bloody annoying! Hate the damn things!

    ReplyDelete
  70. er.... hi from Ghana :-)

this vuvuzela thingamajig is *not* of African origin. It was first used in Mexican stadia and became popular in *South Africa* only in the 1990s, so before anyone starts yapping about how "barbaric" my continent is, please read the wikipedia entry on vuvuzelas and find out more about its American origin.

    cheers.

PS: I hate the sound it makes too. I destroyed one of those (belonged to some idiot in the room across from mine) during my freshman year in uni.

  71. the horns are a simble for the people of south africa. it is a sense of pride for them, shure the sound might be annoying but the atmosphere distracts u from them, the players are being payed millions for this sport, and people are saying poor them a firefighter saves lives and gets payed 10 pounds an hour a fottballer gets payed 50,000 a week and kicks a ball compare it.

  73. The horns are not a symbol for the people of South Africa. They are rather an annoying, distracting, distrupting influence to the matches, including their own team's games. Its high time that FIFA did something and banned them, at least for the round of 16 through to the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  74. A plastic horn is a symbol of South Africa, oh please! If that's true, they should be ashamed, some "symbol" (or "simble"). Ban the horrible thing during World Cup. Let South Africa play to their heart's content when it's all over!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Some say that none of the top teams (apart from Germany) have won a game precisely because of VuVuZelas - they are simply distracting the players... What do you think - should vuvuzelas be banned? Vote & instantly see the results at: http://www.revelmob.com/surveys/should-vuvuzelas-be-banned

  77. The noise created by these vuvuzelas reach upto 127 decibals, which is very close to a Jet plane sound of 130 decibals and and the Ear hearing capacity of 140 decibals. Jet planes only cause the sound for a few seconds or max minutes while take off or landing, whereas this is a continuous non-stop chaos of vuvuzelas which is unbearable.

When we can't tolerate it on television I wonder how people out there in stadium and near this instrument are able to stand them?

I do not watch the games anymore, I just read about them on the internet afterwards. The sound is to annoying but even more important; there is no atmosphere in the stadiums, no cheering that goes with the game, no 12th man standing behind a team, it is just ZZZMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. I actually do not quite get this from the South Africans, they are normally such rhytmic people full of soul, how can they like this boring one toned sound..?

  86. As a sufferer of tinnitus, I think these should be banned to help prevent hearing damage caused by some idiot behind you with a vuvuzela. I hope that all it will take for a worldwide ban will be for one person who develops tinnitus as a result of vuvuzelas to sue the football club / stadium owners where they were at.
Some rock concerts get around this by putting out disclaimers that they take no responsibility for hearing loss/damage. As far as I am aware however, when it comes to football tickets, no such waiver is stated...
Didn't Apple even have to relent on iPods by limiting volume levels?
